Cancers can be classified into many different types but there are some of the most common types of cancers, which you need to be aware of. Below is the detailed description of the various cancer kinds. Read them
Most Common Types Of Cancers
1. Skin Cancer
A skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancers seen in the world today. It can be classified into 2 main types, which are
The non-melanoma (squamous cell and basal cell) is the most common type of skin cancer. It had expected cases of more than 2,000,000 during the year 2012. Few forms of these cancers are completely curable whereas some may not be. On the other hand, melanoma is a serious skin cancer type that affects 5% people, who have diagnosed their skin cancer. During the year 2012, over 76,250 new melanoma cases were diagnosed.
2. Lung Cancer
This is another commonly seen cancer type these days. Unfortunately, about 28% of people die when they suffer from this cancer type. There were about 160340 deaths during the year 2012 in US due to lung cancer. The main reason why people get lung cancer is without doubt – “Smoking”. So quit, if you have this habit.
3. Prostate Cancer
This is one of the most common types of cancers after skin and lung. In US, out of 6, 1 will usually suffer from a prostate cancer. The first cancer that causes the most deaths is lung and second is prostate. They symptoms are deadly and mostly it leads to death. However, it can be detected in early stage with the help of DRE (Digital Rectal Exams) and PSA screenings.
4. Breast Cancer
Before I tell you about this, you can read about what causes breast cancer and other associated information in detail through my previous article. According to American Cancer Society, there were about 226870 cases of breast cancer in the year 2012. This majorly affects women and when it worsens, it either involves removal of breasts or leads to death.
5. Colorectal Cancer
This is another most commonly seen type of cancer, which doesn’t discriminate. It is the 3rd common type of cancer seen both in women and men. There is 9% death rate of people suffering with this kind of cancer.
6. Types Of Blood Cancer
There are 3 main types of blood cancer, which are as follows
This is one of the most common types of blood cancer, which usually occurs in bone marrow (the place where the blood is actually made) & blood itself. Leukemia can again be categorized into 2 types
- Lymphocytic Leukemia = Involves massive number of WBCs (White Blood Cells) known as lymphocytes
- Myelogenous Leukemia = Involves massive number of WBCs (White Blood Cells) known as Granulocytes
Leukemia is either chronic or acute. The acute one develops rapidly & which means that the body begins to produce huge underdeveloped WBCs. The chronic one develop gradually & which means that the body begins to produce huge normal functioning WBCs. Too many WBCs does a lot of harm.
This is another type of blood cancer, which develops is lymphatic system. This system helps in keeping your body fluids 100% clean & protects from infection. But when cancer begins to develop here it interrupts the normal functioning and worsens. It is categorized into 2 types
- Hodgkin Lymphoma = Cancer multiplies from lymph nodes to other in certain order
- Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma = Cancer multiplies from lymph nodes to other in random order
This is one of the common types of blood cancer, which causes plasma cells for forming a tumor inside bone marrow. So, what is a bone marrow? It is a delicate bone part, where all the blood cells are made.
